As Mayor of the City of Brandon it is a critical responsibility that I support the healthiest and most affordable lifestyle for all residents of the City. I was elected in October 2022 on a platform that included robust support for safe active transportation, and I earned a strong mandate from voters. With my experience of 12 previous years on City Council, I bring to this team an excellent understanding of community needs and expectations, including the challenges of ensuring our City’s benefits are shared equitably with all.
In my personal life, I maintain a healthy and active lifestyle that includes cycling, functional strength training, yoga and especially year-round outdoor running — yes, in Manitoba. Annually, I take part in a large number of runs and trail runs, and in early September 2023, prior to the workshop dates, I will participate in the Golden Ultra in Golden B.C.
I believe there are powerful opportunities presented by active transportation and public space, opportunities that we must seize. The value of this project is also evident in its design: As a lifelong community builder I know the unparalleled importance of exercising collaboration and bringing together the City of Brandon with the Prairie Mountain Health Authority and Brandon University ensures tremendous and long-lasting benefits to all three organizations and our entire community.
